On several weekends – November 21 and 22 as well as December 12 and 13 – children can, without registration, craft imaginative light catchers, experiment with light and shadow, or design their own Christmas cards. Participation is included in the museum admission – a relaxed, creative experience for families.

For those looking for a charming idea for personal Christmas greetings, the Ernst Leitz Museum offers the perfect inspiration: its photo stations provide inspiring backdrops for spontaneous portraits all year round – and from November 24, they will feature a special seasonal motif with a festive touch. Whether it’s a selfie, a family portrait, or a fun snapshot in a Christmas sweater, a museum visit becomes a creative highlight. And from November 24 to December 31, anyone wearing a Christmas sweater will receive free admission to the Ernst Leitz Museum.

The lecture series “Winter Stories” brings personal narratives and photographic perspectives to the stage on selected evenings. Dr. Stefanie Nickel will open the series on November 28 with a cultural studies lecture on photographic memory in family contexts. Leica photographer and legendary speaker Wolfgang Schiemann will share his experiences from seven decades of Leica’s technical history. A highlight to mark the beginning of December is the Leica Soirée on November 29 – an elegant evening for reflection and exchange. In an atmospheric setting, visual projections meet live, handcrafted music by Rick Coleman. The “Silent Night” archive tours on December 4 and 8 offer an intimate look into the brand’s history. During these exclusive evening tours, rarely seen drawers of Leica’s archives are opened – revealing early lenses, historic shipping ledgers, and never-produced prototypes. On December 13, the “Leica Winter Walk” invites participants on a shared photographic stroll through the streets of Wetzlar. Together with the Leica Store Wetzlar, the walk focuses on creative image-making, inspiring exchange, and the festive atmosphere of the Christmas market as a picturesque destination.
